The Ranade era of the late 19th century in Maharashtra was a period of Indian political and intellectual ferment. There is evidence that the early Indian feminist movements did have direct links with Western thought and movements. Women priests and reformers like Savitri Bai Phule, Pandita Ramabai and Bhimrao Ambedkar has influenced and motivated western feminists and western feminists inspired them with their efforts.
